SYAMA's tutors are trained professionals. They have vast experience in teaching traditional Indian arts. SYAMA complements their training through innovatively written materials for teaching to today's young children.

Guru TR Vijayakumar - Violin and Vocal

Sri TR Vijayakumar is a dedicated musician  a great performing artist and a much beloved and respected teacher. He constantly endeavors to discover new dimensions in music. His knowledge of the nuances of carnatic music is to be experienced to be believed! A pious and humble person, music is not only his forte but his very mission in life.

His grand father Thirugokarnam Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar was a respected contemporary of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar, Veenai Karaikudi Sambasiva iyer, Mridangam famous Pudukottai Dakshina Murthi Pillai to name a few. His father Ramabadran is a musical prodigy and enthralls the audience with his talent even at a ripe age of 86 His late mother “Pallavi” Subbalakshimi was equally great in her musical talents , gave many concerts and was trained in Tamil Nadu Music College by the famous Musiri Subramanya Iyer. He is a permanent resident of Singapore.

Guru Kanchana Rajesh - Vocal

 

Kanchana was initiated into music training (Vocal and Veena) under Smt. Manjula Ramesh, and later under the able guidance of Smt.Lalgudi Rajalakshmi. She has been undergoing rigorous vocal training and grooming with Sri.Lalgudi G.Jayaraman.

She has secured concert prizes from Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha, Indian Fine Arts and Mylapore Fine Arts. She has performed concerts at Ragasudha Hall, Chennai, Karthik Fine Arts, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nada Inbam, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Nungambakkam Cultural Trust, AIR Chennai andYACM. She is recipient of central Govt. scholarship Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India (1999-2001).

Kanchana has performed widely in Singapore, at the Vasantha utsavam in Perumal temple and music festivals. She has sung for Bharathanatya arangetrams and performances in Singapore, including SYAMA's 'Devadasi and the Saint' and 'Santh mela'.

 

 

 

Image Guru Ramkumar Vasudevan - Veena

Ramkumar, an IT consultant by profession, commenced veena training at age seventeen, under the tutelage of Srimathi Kamala Viswanathan. He later learnt from Smt. Jayalakshmi Subramaniam, and currently learning from Vidwan R Parthasarathy (Veena Paccha). He holds a 8-year diploma in Music (Veena).

Ramkumar has performed at various venues such as Esplanade theatres, Singapore Arts Museum, Kalautsavam Singapore and the prestigious Chennai music festival. Ramkumar was the winner of Indian music competition by NAC Singapore, in Solo and Ensemble categories in 2000 and 2002. Due to his active interest in music, he started SYAMA and conducted various events including at the Esplanade opening festival and the Singapore music festival

Guru Durga Manimaran - Bharathanatyam and Nattuvangam

Born with the inner passion for dance, Durga began learning the art of Bharathanatyam at the tender age of four under the guidance of Viswakala Bharathi, Smt Neila Sathyalingam She has performed in numerous community projects, dance dramas and arts festivals locally and abroad with the company. Since her arangetram in 1997, Durga never looked back in her journey with dance. 

Durga has had the privilege to train under the late Smt. Krishnaveni Lakshman, the former principal of Kalakshetra College of Fine arts, Chennai where she studied the fine nuances of dance. Durga has showcased her solo productions in Australia, Chennai and Malaysia during the dance festivals. She is also a follower of the "Navanrithya", in Kolkata, which teaches contemporary dance styles based on Indian Classical dance forms. A graduate of Deakin University Melbourne, she holds a bachelor of Contemporary Arts with a Dance major. She aims at propagating dance as part of a lifestyle in Singapore.

Guru Venkataramanan - Mridangam and Flute 


Sri R Venkataramanan completed Vadhya Visharadha (Diploma in Mridangam Studies - Gold Medalist) from Tamil Nadu Govt.Music College, and subsequently VADHYAKALAIMAMANI TITLE in Music College. He learnt from Gurus Sri. Thanjai Natarajan, Sri. Kumbakonam Saravanan and Sri. E.M. Subramaniam (Advanced Training in Mridangam). He had specialised training from   Sri. T.K.Murthy (Advanced training for a year) and Sri. Mayavaram Viswanathan.

Venkataramanan comes from a musical lineage, having Sangeetha Kalanidhi and  Kalaimamani vocalist Late Smt. M.L.VASANTHAKUMARI as his Maternal Grandmother. He has performed in all major sabhas in Chennai. He is currently playing extensively for dance recitals of Kalaimamani Smt. Chandra Dhandayuthapani  and Kalaimamani Surya Santhanam. he has also played for numerous Bhajans of leading Artististes like Pozhichalur Sri.Murali Bhagavathar and Thirupapuliyoor Sri.Gopalasundara Bhagavathar
